Following the nomads’ footsteps
Custom travel to Mongolia
In the never-ending Gobi Desert, Mongolia’s soft-spoken, hospitable people adapt at the same time they inhabit ancient yurta tents in the Murun Valley. And get ready for sacred mountains that even keep the dinosaurs’ secrets.
NUBA EXPERIENCES
Mongolian bests
Travel on horseback to cross Murun Valley steppes, and surrounding forested mountains, home to Mongol nomads. Spend nights in a real ger tent pitched between caves and canyons.
Yurts
A yurt (also called a ger) is the traditional dwelling nomads use on Central Asian steppes. They have existed for more than two millennia and were family houses where multiple generations shared space. In the Middle Ages, the Mongols were constantly displaced and found themselves obliged to create these portable tents, protected by thick covers, but also easy to transport and ideal for assuaging Mongolia’s mostly inclement weather.
Recommended travel time: Summer and fall
The best time to visit Mongolia is from May to October. The weather is more pleasing and steppe landscapes reach their verdant zenith. Be aware that winters are never less than bitter and long in Mongolia.
Seasonal Experiences
Savor private suppers at the Zanabazar Museum, surrounded by priceless artifacts.
